Dear Parents and Guardians, I am looking forward to working with you and your student this year and I am so pleased that you have taken the time to visit my website. Since I know you are interested in your student's education, I hope you will read the information throughout this site regarding my classroom expectations, attendance/tardy policies, and grading policy. I hope you and your student will visit the various pages on my website often to review assignments, to gain ideas, to find helpful links, and mainly, to communicate with one another. I realize that teaching your student is a privilege, as well as a tremendous responsibility. I will do my best this year to ensure that each student has a motivating and safe learning experience in the classroom. However, I cannot do this alone: I need your help. We both need to be partners in the learning process. I need each of you to encourage your student at home by helping to ensure that he/she has completed his/her assignments, and by helping him/her to take initiative in the educational experience. All of my class assignments are always posted at the beginning of the week on the website. As important as it is for you to be a part of your student's academic expereince, it is also important for him/her to work on his/her own. My main goal is to encourage your student to become an independently responsible young adult who can take initiative in his/her studies in order to be successful after high school. Although we are partners in your student's educational experience, ultimately it is up to him/her to succeed. We can urge and encourage your student to seek help outside of class, if necessary. I look forward to working as partners. We have a very busy and exciting year in store for us! Please do not ever hesitate to contact or email me. I have provided that information for you. Respectfully submitted, Sarah Mattice Mrs. Sarah Mattice English Department 1 Sabre Drive Schenectady, NY 12306 Schalmont High School smattice@sabrenet.net 355-6110 X3546
